Rendering Matte Surfaces: Volume 3

Shading Complex Curved Objects with Neville Page

Simple Curved Surfaces

Description

In the final instalment of the Matte Surface Rendering series, Neville Page explores advanced shading techniques for complex curved surfaces — methods he has been teaching for more than two decades. Artists will discover how to apply everything already learned in Volume 1 and Volume 2 to more complex curved surfaces.

In this 2.5-hour workshop, Neville demonstrates a clear, technical, and logical approach to assigning values across panels and compound curves. As the examples progress in complexity throughout the lessons, he showcases a range of lighting strategies in Photoshop to help artists render impressive and sophisticated forms, which are particularly useful when working with intricate designs. Neville then follows through with a full rendering demo, taking artists through the entire journey, from start to finish.

This workshop concludes with some quick “Fish Form” value sketches that bring all the lessons together in a quick and practical way.

This series of Rendering Matte Surfaces classes is designed to help artists advance from solid basics to professional-level application. The lessons are essential for beginners looking to push their skills further and also provide a strong foundation for experienced artists looking to refine their techniques and sharpen their skills.
