This week The Gnomon Workshop is releasing 4 new
titles in their series of professional comic book
illustration DVD’s. This series starts with
Comic Book Pencilling with David Finch and continues
with Comic book layout and pencilling with Alvin
Lee, Comic Book Inking with Joe Weems and Comic Book
Coloring with Steve Firchow. This in-depth series
covers such topics as thumbnailing variation and
experimentation, using a range of textures and rendering
techniques, working through your creative thought
process, tools, workflow, picking and establishing
your palette and much more. All four DVDs include
over 2 hours of lecture, lots of detailed close-ups
and lecture Notes.
Also this week The Gnomon Workshop is pleased
to be releasing 3 new 3D character DVDs - Character
Rigging: The Puppet Rig, Maya Rigging Techniques with
Carlo Sansonetti, Character Modeling
in Maya and ZBrush: The Making of Jester, Volume One and Character
Texturing and Rendering: The Making of Jester, Volume
Two, both with Alex Alvarez.
In Character Rigging: The Puppet Rig Carlo
takes you through the entire rigging process from skeleton
creation and joint orientation through to limb twisting.
Topics include Animation
Controls, Stretchy Spine and Head and Neck rigs. With
The Making of Jester Volumes 1 & 2, Gnomon Founder and Director,
Alex Alvarez teaches a 2-part making-of demonstration
and lecture. This comprehensive set takes the viewer
through the complete creation process from Base
Mesh Creation through to Environment Creation. Alex will
work through such topics as UV Layout, Composition and
Lighting, Maya Shader Setup,
Rendering with Mental Ray and Maya workflow, just to
name a few.

knowledge the world of tattooing.

three new additions to our 3D and 2D libraries!
Zack
Petroc returns with Volume 2 of his
fantastic Art Direction and Digtial Sculpting
series, utilizing ZBrush 3. We also introduce
new instructors Henry Goecke and Jeremy Vickery.
Henry teaches the basics of modeling surfaces
in StudioTools and Jeremy lectures on light
and color theory from a practical perspective
as applied to 2D and 3D image creation.

to our training library, internationally recognized
3D artist Cetin Tuker, who provides our digital DVD
library with his knowledge of 3ds Max techniques
using Glue3D. Cetin has over 15 years experience
working in 3D production and teaching university
level 3D Animation and Motion Graphics. Cetin is
also a respected writer for numerous 3D magazines
and the author of his own book on “3D Environment
Design” which was released in 2006.

of new character animation and fluid dynamics DVD
titles. Scott Easley, Principal Animator for Heavy
Iron Studios, shares his techniques for developing
a solid character animation pipeline using Maya.
Wayne England, CG Supervisor at Sway Studio, introduces
Real Flow and his techniques for sculpting fluid
dynamic simulations. Scott and Wayne bring over a
decade of production experience in the games, broadcast
and film industries, and have each won Emmys for
their expertise and talent.
