So the moment has finally arrived... the entire Gnomon Workshop library is now available in the DVD format! And just in time for Christmas! (whew).

This last batch consists of four titles, two of which are brand new additions to our library by renowned 3D artist Jeremy Engleman. Alex Alvarez and Jeremy have spent the last 12 months redesigning the Gnomon School's 10 week Lighting and Rendering course. These two titles represent the first in a series of rendering DVDs, with new titles to be released in the first quarter of 2003 (as well as many other exciting titles currently in development!).

Also new with this release is a Two-Disc set! 'Introduction to Maya' has been completely re-recorded with over four hours of lecture, split across two DVDs shipped in a nifty two-disc case.

As always, the DVDs include scene files and lecture notes. Details are available by following the link below:

Introduction to Maya: Interface and Workflow
Rendering 1: Lighting Fundamentals
Rendering 2: Shadows
Constraints 1: Character / Object Interaction

Three DVDs on deformers are now shipping! These lectures are 100% new recordings, full of many new topics and examples. While the previous Deformers titles focused almost exclusively on character facial deformations, these new lectures also delve into a myriad of alternate applications.

As always, the DVDs include scene files and lecture notes. Details are available by following the link below:

Deformers 1: Clusters, Blendshape
Deformers 2: Sculpt, Lattice, Wrap
Deformers 3: Wire, Wrinkle, Jiggle

Five new DVDs on texturing and kinematics are now shipping! These lecture upgrades include all the benefits of the DVD/DVD-ROM format including scene files and special features. The texturing titles were not only rerecorded by Darrin Krumweide, but delve deeper into Hypershade. What was two videos has now become six hours of lecture spread over 3 DVDs.

Details are available by following the link below:

Texture Mapping 1: Materials
Texture Mapping 2: Textures
Texture Mapping 3: Projections
Kinematics 3: Inverse Kinematics
Kinematics 4: Arms and Legs

A project begun in May, we have finally finished upgrading all of our lectures to DVD! This process has involved rerecording 90% of the material to incorporate new features in Maya 4.5. The new lectures are full of new examples and subject matter in order to best illustrate the various topics. As is the case with our currently available titles, all new DVDs include scene files and bonus material, with some titles reaching 150 minutes of lecture! Between now and the end of the year, new DVDs will become available every 7-14 days.

We are also very excited to welcome Jeremy A. Engleman to the roster of Gnomon Workshop instructors! Jeremy has produced two new DVDs on Rendering, which will be available mid-December.

Immediately available are four DVD lecture upgrades which focus on modeling and kinematics. The NTSC/PAL videos for these titles have been discontinued and will appear in the bargain basement next week.

Details are available by following the link below:

Polygon Modeling 1: Basics
Polygon Modeling 2: Subdivision Surfaces
Kinematics 1: Skeletons
Kinematics 2: Forward Kinematics

Gnomon Director Alex Alvarez has been featured on Apple's website; discussing the importance of Maya moving to the Mac. Just as the 3D industry gradually moved from IRIX to Windows, OS-X could be the next paradigm shift.

Nine brand new titles are on the way! Scheduled for late September release, the titles have been mastered and are currently in the DVD authoring stage: four titles by A.Alvarez, three by D.Krumweide and two by CG supervisor and Gnomon instructor Andrew Orloff. What are the titles? Unfortunately, we have to keep this a secret for a little longer.

We are also getting many inquiries as to when we will finish the conversion of older titles to DVD. These are currently scheduled for mid-Fall release.

The Gnomon Workshop is happy to present 20 Maya Projects and Scene files by Alvarez! Ranging from character models to dynamic rigs, these should come in handy for those who like to save time by dissecting (or incorporating) 'off-the-shelf' resources. For more information, check out the Scenes page.

So here they are... DVDs!

After many requests for this format, we had a team of professional UI designers and DVD authors, headed by Alex Alvarez, spend many weeks converting and updating almost half of the Gnomon Workshop library to DVD.

We are extremely happy with the interactivity, special features and bonus material we have been able to include on the DVD discs.

All DVD titles have interactive menus with chapters, lecture notes, resource spotlights (40 minutes), bonus material and, on DVD-ROM equipped PCs/Macs, students can access a maya project directory with scene files and sourceimages such as textures and imageplanes.

Of course, eventually the entire library will be converted, but for now we are busy in production of several brand new titles to be released in the Fall.

Pricing: DVDs are available for $79 per title. Videos will remain at $59.

Upgrade Policy: If you have already purchased a video and would like to get the DVD, you are eligible for discounted pricing. See the FAQ page for more information on upgrading.

We hope these DVDs are received well, as we feel they are by far the best training products available for Maya. Whether you are just getting started with 3D, or a professional looking to learn new techniques, we are here to make the learning process smoother and faster. Good luck with Maya.
