The Gnomon Workshop is proud to announce its eighth Gnomon Workshop LIVE weekend to be held at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood, CA. The event will feature another incredible line-up of instructors and speakers in and out of The Gnomon Workshop library.

See presentations and demos by highly accomplished artists who will take you inside their own personal projects and processes. This event provides a rare opportunity to meet these artists, learn from their experiences, and discuss issues important to the entertainment industries. The artists in our line-up include Jordu Schell, Ben Procter, Scott Patton, Ian Joyner, Paul Richards, Alex Oliver, Chuk Wojtkiewicz, Chris Kirshbaum, Jonathan Berube, Glenn Rane and more to be announced. These artists have worked on such projects as Avatar, Cloverfield, Iron Man, Transformers, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Tron, Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Quake 4, Warhammer Online, Warhammer 40,000, BioShock, Hellgate and Darksiders, just to name a few.

Interview with Stephen McClure

With over twelve years of experience in the field of animation and visual effects, Stephen McClure has worked on numerous projects involving the many aspects of CG matchmoving and integration. For eight years he was a lead artist on high-end television commercial work at The Digital Lab, whose clients included Coca Cola, EDS, Sega, Chevrolet, Motorola and Taco Bell. Stephen’s other credits include music videos, episodic television and feature films such as Sphere and Practical Magic. Stephen has been teaching at the Gnomon School for over six years and has also taught at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, as well as at UCLA Extension. He is currently a resident artist and producer at The Gnomon Workshop. Stephen received BFAs from Art Center College of Design, and from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

Mental Ray Production Practices with Matt Hartle

This week The Gnomon Workshop announces the release of a new Mental Ray DVD by Gnomon Workshop veteran instructor Matt Hartle. In this new title Matt discusses and demonstrates the steps he takes to produce a finished visual effects shot using Maya, Mental Ray and After Effects. With the benefit of his many years of production and teaching experience, Matt focuses on the techniques needed to get the project done fast and efficiently.
