Dan
Quarnstrom
One
of Rhythm & Hues’ premier art directors, Dan Quarnstrom’s
experience spans decades and a wide range of disciplines, from illustration
and traditional 2-D animation to computer-generated 3-D animation.
Starting as an illustrator and designer, Quarnstrom’s early
career involved freelance work for magazines, record labels, and
advertising. He joined the pioneering motion-graphics firm Robert
Abel and Associates in the 1970s, where the emerging technology of
computer-generated imagery was being developed and applied to commercials
and films. He later followed fellow Abel alumnus John Hughes and
partners to their new venture, Rhythm & Hues Studios. Today,
Quarnstrom contributes to visual development for films and commercials.
He has directed spots for Coca-Cola and Kodak, and contributes to
the character design process of countless R&H projects. He recently
participated in a group “car culture” show at the Mendenhall-Sobieski
gallery in Pasadena, along with Robert Williams and Big Daddy Roth.
